Oklahoma Christian students to hold a campus-wide event in partnership with StoryCorps and the Library of Congress Nov. 19

Edmond and OC community members are invited to participate in an oral history project from StoryCorps in partnership with the Library of Congress. 

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Christian University proudly invites Edmond community members to share their story in collaboration with the OC Communication Department and StoryCorps. Known as Share Your Story, the audio recording event will be Nov. 19 from 1:40-2:30 p.m. in Garvey Center 111. This project is hosted by Dr. Watson and his Event Planning class, offering students an opportunity to apply their knowledge through hands-on experience in organizing and leading the event. “StoryCorps seeks to use communication and storytelling to bring people together,” Watson said. “The OC Department of Communication seeks to prepare students for civic and Christian service, so an event that helps capture the stories from our local community is a great fit for the two organizations.”

The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, preserving millions of books, recordings, photographs and manuscripts that document American history and culture. StoryCorps, an independent nonprofit organization, partners with the Library of Congress to collect and save personal stories from people across the United States. OC will participate in two projects. “The Great Thanksgiving Listen” records stories of family members and mentors who have made a difference in others’ lives, while the “Military Voices Initiative” invites veterans, active-duty service members and their families to share their experiences. Together, these projects help ensure that everyday Americans’ voices become part of the country’s permanent historical collection, archived in the Library of Congress for future generations.
