Professor of Music Dr. John Fletcher recently traveled to China to perform with students from several schools across China at the Life Plus Schools Festival of Fine Arts in Tianjin on March 21. This festival featured performances from an honor choir, an honor band, a drama group, and exhibitions by student visual artists. Thank you to OC Music alumna and Choir Director for the Wuhan LifePlus Schools, Emily Calder, for inviting Dr. Fletcher to this incredible opportunity. Keep up the great work, Dr. Fletcher!
CoLA alumnus Brendan King highlighted in CBS News for his integrity
CBS News highlighted the incredible story of CoLA alumnus Brendan King choosing to report the mistake that cost his team a state championship! Brendan reviewed game footage after his Academy of Classical Studies team’s championship win and discovered they had actually lost. Despite the game being officially called, he and his team chose to report the mistake and give up their title. In recognition of their honesty and sportsmanship, they received the Spirit of Oklahoma award at OC’s Associates Gala on March 26. Way to go, Coach King! Exciting news! The Princeton Review has recognized OC as one of the nation’s top 50 undergraduate schools for game design, and the judges ranked OC as No. 1 in Oklahoma! Our faculty continuously contributes to the Gaming and Animation program to ensure students reach their fullest potential in design with new technology, labs, and intuitive course design. Way to go!
Baugh Auditorium stage dedicated to CoLA alumnus Bob Lashley
OC honors the life and legacy of Bob Lashley, a CoLA alumnus whose passion for music shaped generations here at OC. On March 6, the stage in Baugh Auditorium was officially dedicated in his name. Across the front of the stage, “Lashley Stage” is displayed in bright lights for everyone to see. His legacy will continue to inspire students, performers, and audiences for years to come at OC!
Distinguished Professor of Language and Literature Dr. Cami Agan’s monograph expected to publish in 2028
Our professors do incredible things both inside and outside of the classroom! Distinguished Professor of Language and Literature Dr. Cami Agan is publishing her monograph, “The Hyper-Elegiac Silmarillion: Tolkien's First Age Beleriand,” with McFarland Press, expected in 2028. It explores the impact “The Silmarillion” had on Tolkien's world.
Additional publications are forthcoming that explore Tolkien’s world, and she is co-editing the collection, "Great Heart and Strength: Women and Gender in the Works of JRR Tolkien.” We look forward to reading her works! Keep up the great work, Dr. Agan!
