OC’s state-of-the-art Kicker Audio Lab grand opening will take place Feb. 7

New audio lab provides unique opportunities for OC students.

January 29, 2020 - There’s something new at Oklahoma Christian University that is shaking the walls of the Garvey Center.

The grand opening of OC’s new Kicker Audio Lab will be Feb. 7 at 11:20 a.m. The new studio will be used by both the Departments of Music and Art + Design for designing video game audio, recording projects and more. The lab features a 32,000-watt “Wall of Boom” designed by Kicker sound design engineers. In addition, Dr. Joseph Adams gave a generous donation to OC to provide the recording studio equipment in the space.

Chair of the OC Department of Music Heath Jones is excited about the opportunities the lab brings for current and potential students.

“This lab is truly state-of-the art,” Jones said. “It is a unique opportunity for OC because it provides a lab for recording, mixing and producing works with audio.”

The Kicker Lab is connected to Judd Theatre and Adams Recital Hall, which will aid the OC Chorale at the start of many recording projects. OC’s Gaming and Animation program can also use the lab and its Alienware computer for virtual reality gaming. The Kicker Lab provides a creative outlet for many different students in OC’s College of Liberal Arts.

Steve Irby and others designers from Kicker will be present to celebrate the finished lab. There will be a short dedication from OC President John deSteiguer and Jones, which will be followed by the unleashing of the “Wall of Boom.” Eileen’s “Kicker Kookies” and ear protection will be provided to attendees.
