Expanding my comfort zone

“The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure. You never change your life until you step out of your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

― Roy T. Bennett

This semester in Eagle PR, I pushed myself past my comfort zone.

I had the honor of being in the Social Media Director position for a second semester. I again was in charge of all of the social media channels for the firm and for the OC communication department. This is something I have grown into, and I have made a lot of progress in my social media skills. Throughout this semester, I have continued to gain knowledge about analytics and posting content that relates to the target audience of our channels. In addition, I have continued to grow in my content creation, and I have grown to love creating graphics.

Before this year, I was unsure of my voice in the world of social media and PR. I did not know if I had a place to post content that mattered to others outside of my friends and family who will always like my posts. Being in charge of the social media of others has encouraged me. I now know that I can post meaningful content that gets likes and views from others who can benefit from my words and digital media.

I have learned to be more confident in how God can use me as an instrument of His work. I have now stepped out of my comfort zone, and I have now found that social media in the world of public relations is a new comfort zone of mine. I am excited to continue to grow and to find a new place and way to step out of this new comfort zone. -Elizabeth Killough
